Free movie
I just got a free double pass to Youth Without Youth, a new movie by Francis Ford Coppola, tonight at the Paradiso, at 18:30. Anyone interested?

Project update the Nth
Not so great in my head right now. Chance of passing degree are around 20%, I'd say, with a confidence of 8%. Uncertainty is the flavour of the day.

You know you're stressed to the edge of nervous breakdown when certain powerful anxiolytics actually increase your ability to concentrate by several orders of magnitude.

Can Adam bullshit well enough, fast enough, with a head made of foam?

Tune in this Thursday at 4 PM for the answer.

DOOM
Heart pounding, can't breathe. 11 days (minus 4.5 hours) until dissertation due. Unless I can somehow calm down, concentrate, and then engage in an extended period of bullshitting - around full time work - and have two makers buy said bullshit - I'm fucked. So yeah, I'm a little short of breath. It's mainly been panic lately, but the anger kicked in half an hour ago.

Poor? Free time? Smart but enjoy banal work?
I'm just wondering out loud, for "no particular reason", whether there are quick people who don't mind boring work on a randomly occurring basis out there. Not that the University Website Office is looking for people to take up some of the slack, you know. Just hypothetically.

Adam caught by a spontaneous meme
Long, long week. Tired... tired eyes. No time to trim since Monday morning, and I ran out of moisturiser nearly a week ago. Three people commented positively on this shirt today. One of them a girl yelling from the window of a car "I love your shirt, man!", driving along St. Georges Terrace.

If you average a nice, deep, pure red with white you'll get a gorgeous salmon.

When I was thirteen, I started learning how to deprogram myself and reprogram myself. My life's been getting stranger and better ever since and I'm still learning.

Cocktail party anyone?
Mainly looking for reactions and/or interest here.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to host a cocktail party, probably late first quarter 2009. Now, the cocktail parties I've been to with my own peers so far in life have been wonderful, but I also wouldn't be afraid to use the term 'chaotic', especially with relation to the quality of substance people were imbibing.

What I'm thinking is that I'd like to move a little away from this format, to something more civilised and focused on actually appreciating a variety of respected cocktails.

More specifically (and this is what I'm not sure people would be interested in enough to make it happen), I'd like to find a small group of people who would be interested in making drinks throughout the night - and not just making them on the night - but preparing themselves thoroughly for the event beforehand :)

In particular, I'm wondering if maybe half a dozen people would like to get together with me for perhaps 3 or 4 nights (spaced over a couple of months) before the event, such that we might familiarise ourselves iwth the IBA Official Cocktail list. It would be like a study group... Where you actually learn valuable stuff (and get drunk)!

Intensive study régime update #1
I figure it might encourage me to work harder if I post occasional updates about how productive my five-days-of-study are being. It may or may not get into the technical realms of evolutionary computation.

Despite the numerous suggestions generated by my recent attempt to find programmer friendly cafés, I'm currently sitting at Grind Espresso Bar in the city (south-east of the Carillon food court), which I've been to before but which wasn't on the list. Things I've only discovered with this visit: free wireless and the cap has shaved dark chocolate =^.^= Win.

Before this I had breakfast at a Croissant Express, not fifty metres away. The class differential is truly unnerving.

Seeking programmer friendly cafés
Yo.

Lucky little me is taking three days of study leave from work, such that I can have five straight days of work on my project. So I have a very important question for my avid fans, accidental readers and the rest of you:

Where can I find a good café, with comfortable, flat backed chairs and a nearby toilet, somewhere not too far from the CBD or western suburbs? Must not mind people programming in their establishment all day.

Power points are a plus. Nice ambience should be the primary deciding factor. Benches are usually favoured over chairs. Good carrot cake and espresso are the most important factors as far as food and drink are concerned.

Have iPhone, will dial
Well, I finally got a shiny.

I'm rather pleased with everything about it so far. Anyway, if you haven't heard, I lost my old phone a couple of weeks ago, and that was the only place I had a record of several hundreds of phone numbers.

So. If you don't mind me having your numbers, please leave them here! I'll set the comments to screened and not make any of them live, so only I will see.

I have the same number as before, 04 2828 0996.

Thanks! =^.^=

Addendum: Wow! I totally forgot to screen the comments last time. Sorry about that. Just goes to show you can't trust anyone. Or at least not me.

If you vote 'yes', suggestions are welcome.

In other news, I've been largely unable to concentrate on the programming I really need to do, for most of today. About an hour ago I decided it probably was something I could blame to some degree on persistent back pain, and decided maybe a little codeine might help. Well, it's certainly made the pain go away. Man have I lost my opiate tolerance! 15mg and everything's swimmy =/

Colour management confusion
Like I said,
If anyone can recommend a good book on colour management I'd really, really appreciate it.

As in, dealing with colour profiles and all the craziness CS3 offers, which seems to only confuse and infuriate web people who just want to output everything as graphics that look the way they do saved as they do when they're shopping them. I'd really like a robust knowledge of the whole subject, though, plzkthx. (Or is it true that there are only 5 people in the world who actually understand this shit?)
